World’s Ugliest and Most Badly Designed Website

Welcome To My Website!

Fake error message:
Avoid using these "fake" error messages to get unsuspecting vistors to click on your advertisment! Would you like it if you saw this on a website, clicked on it, and realized that this was an advertising ploy? No? Then don't do this to others. If this were a "real" error message, it would not scroll up and down with the page. With a "fake" error message, yoru pointer will become a hand when you hover over this message. You don’t need to trick users in to clicking a fake message. Be upfront, if they want it, they will click on it!

Your navigation must be clear to the user. Orphan pages (pages with a way in, but no way back but the user’s browser back button) are unacceptable.

Hyperlinks that don't work is another problem with poorly designed websites. This is a problem for all large websites that link to other sites around the Internet. The Internet is constantly changing, so links that work today, may not work tomorrow. Check your website links often.

Hyperlinks of unusual colors can cause confusion for new users.

Try to shorten or "mask" the URL Click here

Hyperlinks which are overly long and don't tell the user where it goes or what it's about

Hyperlinks that lead to the incorrect/expired place:

Where am I and where are the links to other pages?

Poor navigation and usability are BIG problems for users and can send them running! Just like having NO search features; poor navigation and or a "poor" user interface, may create confusion, difficulty and irritation to visitors, but hey, this is just your website…no Big deal right?

Other Browsers & Screen Resolutions: Your site must be multi-browser compatible. You may think that everyone out there is using Internet Explorer, but there are thousands that are using Netscape or 3rd party browsers. If your site works well with IE or Netscape, you can be pretty confident that you have achieved cross browser compatibility. Check it in both 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 screen resolutions. Using tables may help control the layout. Avoid components which only render properly in specific browsers.

wild eyeHere you can not read the text clearly. The background should have solid and light colors. There needs to more contrast between the background color and the text color.

White or light background colors usually work the best for easy readability. Remember, simple, clear, easy-to-read-text works best! You want your readers to focus on your copy NOT your background. If you do want to use a background picture, choose carefully, keep it light (like a watermark) and make sure it does NOT compete in any way or it will take away from your message.Click here
Speling misstakes, and impropr punktuation, can make yur web look amaturish, and unfinishd.  Awlays do a spel chek befor yu uplode!  :)  Use of borders for the text blocks can break up the flow of the page and cause unnecessary interruption.
minutemanerupting volcanoContinuously moving objects, flashy pictures, and/or animations can be very distracting, not to mention annoying. If they don’t run visitors away, they will most likely detract from your message which is KEY! If you have to use animation or flash, make sure there is no more than one moving object that can be seen, have it change slowly, or better yet, move on command, or only once or twice before stopping.

(Here are some real life examples of cheesy, annoying websites)

Advertising on a website can be alright (at times) if done correctly and tastefully, and, depending on what type of website you have. Beware of having irrelevant ads on your website, particularly ones that are annoying, have a bad reputation or compete with your copy or your overall "look and feel." Also, do NOT plaster your website with ads as this will make your site look like a "used" car sales lot. Keep it balanced and yes, tasteful!!!

Checking images is pretty quick for a website, as it’s pretty obvious if something is missing. Therefore there is no excuse.Below is an example of broken image on website.

The most famouse website in the world.

Flash intro pages are "very" old-fashioned these days, to the point where users will most often click on the "skip link" or just LEAVE straight away. Skip the expensive flash intro unless there is a way to close it immediately or it has a very good reason for being there. From a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) standpoint, you want your home page to have your MOST important information, and stay away from a flash intro which has little benefit when it comes to search engines. In fact, search engines can’t even see your flash intro.

How many of you have gone to a website, seen the percentage bar load, and were blasted with an earful of loud music or outrageous sound effects, explosions, or other ear wrenching auditory garbage?

You immediately wanted to stay at the website, right?

WRONG!

Your first reaction was to get away from the offending website as fast as you could click your mouse. Your second reaction was to make a mental note to never visit the site again.

If you still want to have background music in your website, then for those of us who HATE your music choice, give us an OFF switch that is easy to find and pray we don’t leave!

The only exception I can think of is if you are a record label, musician, or massage spa which may have very nice, soft relaxing music, and not offend their visitors.

Outdated information: If your products, services, prices, location, hours, contact information, news - or anything else - have changed, make the updates immediately. Customers will notice, and your credibility suffers.

old gloryHanging Chads: As the Florida Recount Implodes, the Supreme Court Decides Bush v. Gore (January 17, 2008)
In the hour or so it took Mark Herron to walk his dogs on election night in 2000, the outcome of the U.S. presidential race plunged into uncertainty. As Herron, a Tallahassee attorney and legal analyst for the Democratic Party, left his house, the TV networks announced that Vice President and Democratic candidate Al Gore had won the crucial state of Florida over Republican Gov. George W. Bush...

In addition to the problems outlined above, remember DOWNLOAD TIME is one of the most important factors in your web design. The heavy graphics and animation slow down the download time for the website. Use pictures sparingly or use thumbnail images. Be sure to save images in .jpg or .gif format.
